ATTLEBORO, MA – Bishop Feehan High School is proud to announce two new Vice Principals of Student Life. Mrs. Carrie Smith and Mr. Noel Grant will take on these leadership positions beginning July 1, 2023. Smith and Grant will be replacing Mr. Al Svendsen, long-time Feehan Vice Principal, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
With this transition, Feehan is also establishing a “two Vice Principals” model for the Vice Principal of Student Life position. Mrs. Smith and Mr. Grant will each be responsible for student life and culture for two of the school’s four classes and will work with those classes throughout their Feehan journeys. Each of the Vice Principals will also have additional duties at the school.
“We are thrilled to have Mrs. Smith and Mr. Grant join our leadership team at Feehan,” said Bishop Feehan Principal Sean Kane. “Both Carrie and Noel care deeply about student success and well-being and are dedicated to Feehan’s culture of caring and excellence.”
Smith, a current Feehan teacher, is a veteran educator with experience in both public and private school settings. She joined Bishop Feehan's math department in 2016 and has become an important part of the wider Bishop Feehan community with a well-known affinity for positive school culture.
Smith has been a key member of Feehan’s mentoring program, helping new teachers understand our Feehan community and Mercy charism. She has led diocesan workshops on building student culture and involvement. Smith is also involved more widely in the diocese as the Chairperson of the Family School Alliance at Saint Mary Sacred Heart School in North Attleboro and as a member of Bishop Da Cunha’s Diocesan Pastoral Council. Mrs. Smith will continue to teach several math courses at Feehan, as well.
Grant is the current Dean of Students at Calcutt Middle School in Central Falls, Rhode Island. In that role, he helps ensure the safety of all faculty and students by managing school safety drills, cameras, school alarms, and all elements of building security. He also has developed behavioral and crisis interventions. Grant has eighteen years of similar work in various school districts and across grade levels. He also has a background as a behavioral technician and behavioral specialist in therapeutic settings.
In addition to his traditional duties as Vice Principal, Grant will also take on the role of Coordinator of Strategic Student Supports at Feehan. In this role, Grant will coordinate Feehan resources and support for all those requiring an extra hand at Feehan. This new role is at the heart of our mercy mission and is an extension of work spearheaded by Mr. Svendsen for the past decade plus.
“While we are certainly excited about the addition of Mrs. Smith and Mr. Grant to our leadership team,” points out Feehan president Tim Sullivan. “It’s also worth more than a moment to recognize the outstanding work done by Al Svendsen these past 13 years. Mr. Svendsen has expected the best from our students and helped our students understand why those standards matter. His “do the right thing” mantra will not soon be forgotten by the several thousand Feehan students he has mentored."
