Clerx & Long Recognized for Acheivements in Spanish

Feehan Students Win Major Spanish Awards

Bishop Feehan High School recognizes junior William Clerx (Seekonk) and sophomore Alyssa Long (N. Attleboro) for their recent esteemed achievements in Spanish. Clerx won the 2009 Junior Travel Award for his achievement on the 2008 National Spanish Examination and for his excellent skills in the Spanish language. The national award, valued at over $3000, is given each year to eight students from across the United States who become eligible by earning high scores on the National Spanish Examinations and then submitting samples of their written and oral work in Spanish, including a videotaped presentation, to a selected committee appointed by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. In July, William will be traveling first to Miami for orientation and then to Peru with the winners.

Long was awarded the National Spanish Exam’s Global Citizenship Scholarship for underclassmen.   She achieved silver medal placement in the 2008 National Spanish, and after a lengthy application process which included a videotaped presentation in Spanish, was selected from hundreds of entries. She will be spending two weeks this summer at the Concorida Language Villages in Minnesota, studying Spanish.
