Overview

Bishop Feehan High School provides a challenging curriculum which prepares students for higher education and for life. Core courses are offered at different levels of depth and difficulty to meet the academic needs of a variety of students. More than 99% of a typical graduating class goes on to college. Advanced Placement and Honors courses are offered in English, Mathematics and Computer Science, Science, World Language, Social Studies, and Art. Among the more than 300 courses offered in nine different departments are an on-line Arabic language program sponsored by the Arab Academy in Egypt, and an Engineering course offered in conjunction with the Museum of Science in Boston. In addition to dedicated classes such as C++ programming and Web Page Design, students acquire skills using a variety of technologies in courses throughout the curriculum. An innovative schedule enables 68% of the student body to enroll in at least one of the more than 20 Fine Arts offerings which include courses in the visual arts, band, string chamber orchestra, songwriting, music technology, chorus, theater, and dance.

Graduation Requirements and Course Load

 

All students are required to earn 7 academic credits in freshmen year, 6.5 academic credits in sophomore year, 6.5 academic credits in junior year, and 6 academic credits in senior year by successfully completing courses selected from the following departments: Theology, English, Science, Mathematics, World Language, and Social Studies. Studio Art II, Senior Portfolio, AP Art, Health and Fitness, and Integrated Technology courses may also be used to fulfill this requirement. To receive a diploma, students must pass six of these courses during their senior year regardless of the number of previously earned credits. In order to graduate, a minimum of 26 credits must be earned according to the following distribution of courses:

 

Theology 4

English 4

Mathematics 4

* Science 3 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

* World Languages 3 of the same language (French or Spanish)

* Social Studies 3 (1.5 each in World History and United States

History)

Electives 3.5

Health and Fitness .5 (.25 Grade 9, .25 Grade 10)

Integrated Technology .5 (.25 Grade 9, .25 Grade 10)

Fine Arts .5

 

*Four credits in these disciplines are strongly recommended in order to satisfy the entrance

requirements/recommendations of a variety of colleges.

 

Results

The success of the school’s program of studies can be measured by the number and quality of college acceptances, the amount of scholarship aid for higher education received and the National Merit recognition. Our seniors annually receive over 1.5 million dollars in scholarships, grants and work study awards. Over the past five years, over 95% of graduates entered four year colleges and 2% entered two year programs.
